Life, Lately

Image
I sat down today and thought, "I should probably get back to blogging." I've has so  much going on lately with school, friendships, romantic relationships (mine and my friends'), and whatnot that I haven't had time to blog or write. Actually, I probably have had the time, I just haven't had the energy. Normally, I would be ashamed of this, but I've decided that I'm not going to beat myself up about it. Life gets busy and complicated. It happens. Anyway, because it's Spring Break and I've had a little time to unwind, I plan on getting back on a better schedule that includes blogging and writing . So... Today's post will be a simple post about what I have been up to lately -however uninteresting it may be. This blog post idea comes from Tessa Emily Hall's Blog .   Currently reading... The Gospel of Luke I love all the Gospels, but Luke is one of my favorites because of his detailed account. Passion and Purity ...

Shaking Up Your Writing Routine

Rather than posting a prompt today, I'm going to attempt to write an actual writing post. *Gasp*. The girl who never finishes stories is going to advise other writers on how to do what she sometimes can't even do herself? Yep. You got it - and I do not yet consider myself a hypocrite. Not yet. Anyway, to day I'm going to talk briefly about shaking up your writing routing.* *Note: I have found that developing a writing routine has been a wonderful, wonderful thing. Perhaps I'll share about that in a future post. One of the great things about being a writer is that you can pretty much do what you do anywhere you like, and you don't have to have all that many resources to do it. These little perks make it easier to breathe fresh air into your writing. But... why would you ever need to do that? Have you ever had one of those days when you sit down to write and all of a sudden you realize that you've been staring at the page/screen for a good ten minutes withou...

Prompted

Alright... I only got one response from my last prompt, but it was a good response, so I'm going to post another one. As I write this, I will simply dream of the day when I am a published author and people are jumping to respond to my posts. ;) The guidelines are the same as last time: Your response can be however long or short you like. Within reason... No single sentences and no page-long ordeals. You can post your response in the comments or post a link to your response in the comments (if you have a blog). There is no prize for the "best" response. This is purely for fun. :) Alrighty... Here we go. Write a scene that involves these three objects: a book, a key, and a letter.   My response was:   "We have to be getting close," I whisper to my Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix. Riley just wags his tail continues to follow me through the woods behind my house. In my hand I clutch the letter. The letter I've read at least ten times t...

Prompted

As promised on Monday, I am proposing a writing challenge for the creative people out there who might be reading my blog. Of course, if there are no creative people reading my blog, this won't be much fun. Nevertheless, I'm going to take the chance and post a unique writing prompt from one of my FAVORITE writing resources, The Pocket Muse. I don't know how Monica Wood comes up with her writing ideas, but I love them because they're so thought-provoking and they really get the creative juices flowing. The other day, I was looking for a writing prompt and stumbled upon one I found to be pretty interesting -just because I'd never thought about anything like it before. So, I'm going to throw it out there and see what y'all come up with. It can be one paragraph or two... even three. Just don't write me a book. If you're that interested, I would suggest that you do just that - write a book! :) You can post your responses in the comments or on your bl...

If you want to write...

Image
Photo taken from Pinterest "I think I’d like to write a book,” I’ve heard people say from time to time and that particular statement has always seemed to bring out two different reactions within me. I like to credit these reactions to my two inner-writers. *If you are a writer you will most likely immediately know what I’m talking about. If you are not a writer, please understand that I am not schizophrenic. *** Writer #1, the writer who has been attempting to write a book for 6+ year is usually very adamant (and sarcastic). She’s a little bitter about the fact that years and years have never produced a complete book. Her response to our perfectly innocent “I think I’d like to write a book.” goes something like this: Oh do you, now? Isn’t that sweet? You want to step in the nasty little quagmire of the creative world. You want to take all those wonderful little ideas you have and try to put them to paper. You want to sit down with a journal or a laptop...

Time to Write!

For those of you who don't know, I am a writer. I hope to one day be a published author, but I should probably finish a book first. Yeah... *Hang my head in shame.* I should get on that. Anyway, part of my being a writer means that I read writing blogs. Many, many writing blogs. Two of my favorites are:   Christ is Write and Go Teen Writers I know I'm twenty. Thankfully let us hang around for a while even if we aren't teenagers.   One of my favorite things about writing blogs is when they host contests and writing challenges. They're always fun to attempt and getting feedback is always helpful. Not to mention the fact that any and all writing practice is beneficial in some way or another. So, when this past Monday BOTH of these blogs hosted writing challenges, I was pretty darn excited. Just for fun, I'm going to post the prompts and my responses here because I would like to start talking more about writing on my blog.   If you're interested, y...
