Prompted

Todays writing prompt is designed to make you think about whether or not you're using the five senses in your writing. Sometimes writers (especially inexperienced writers such as myself) tend to leave out important sensory details in their writing. Using the five senses in your writing can make a scene come alive when they're used correctly. If you want the reader to truly feel like  he or she is there, then you need to give him or her the necessary details to make that possible. For more information I've posted the link to  this blog post  by author, Jody Hedlund, on using the five senses in your writing. Write a scene that uses all five senses at least once. or Write a scene that focuses one of the five senses you tend to neglect the most.     You may post your responses in the comments (or your blog address, if you choose to respond to it there).   I chose the first prompt:   I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply as the national anthem began to play.

Well, guys, the last prompt received TWO responses! We're getting there slowly but surely! ;) If you've completed the prompt before, you know the drill. If not, here are the guidelines: Your response should be between one and three paragraphs. You can either post your response in the comments or on your own blog. If you post on your blog, make sure to copy the link into the comments! This is strictly for fun. No prizes or judging. Sorry! *** Write about the moment "it all made sense." *** My response: As my gaze drifted from Carmen to Pierre to the inspector, it all made sense. We had been played. Every single one of us. Well played, but played nonetheless. I cast a glance at Addie. Hurt was written all over her heart-shaped face. I could understand why such a trick might be played on the rest of us, but why Addie? Happy Hump Day, y'all! Yep... Typing that was just as awkward as reading it.

Shaking Up Your Writing Routine

Rather than posting a prompt today, I'm going to attempt to write an actual writing post. *Gasp*. The girl who never finishes stories is going to advise other writers on how to do what she sometimes can't even do herself? Yep. You got it - and I do not yet consider myself a hypocrite. Not yet. Anyway, to day I'm going to talk briefly about shaking up your writing routing.* *Note: I have found that developing a writing routine has been a wonderful, wonderful thing. Perhaps I'll share about that in a future post. One of the great things about being a writer is that you can pretty much do what you do anywhere you like, and you don't have to have all that many resources to do it. These little perks make it easier to breathe fresh air into your writing. But... why would you ever need to do that? Have you ever had one of those days when you sit down to write and all of a sudden you realize that you've been staring at the page/screen for a good ten minutes withou

Alright... I only got one response from my last prompt, but it was a good response, so I'm going to post another one. As I write this, I will simply dream of the day when I am a published author and people are jumping to respond to my posts. ;) The guidelines are the same as last time: Your response can be however long or short you like. Within reason... No single sentences and no page-long ordeals. You can post your response in the comments or post a link to your response in the comments (if you have a blog). There is no prize for the "best" response. This is purely for fun. :) Alrighty... Here we go. Write a scene that involves these three objects: a book, a key, and a letter.   My response was:   "We have to be getting close," I whisper to my Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix. Riley just wags his tail continues to follow me through the woods behind my house. In my hand I clutch the letter. The letter I've read at least ten times this mo

Simplify: Update

I had another post in mind for today, but I couldn't seem to get it written like I'd like it and because the subject is very dear to my heart, I decided it would be better to save it for another time (when it can be presented as it should). So, today's post is going to be an update from a previous post  I wrote at the beginning of the years. At the beginning of 2014, I made plans to try and simplify my life a little more. I was transferring to a small Christian college and I wanted to be able to focus on God this semester without having a bunch of distractions. So far, it's been a little difficult. My small Christian school is located in a small town, therefore making life rather dull at times. So dull, in fact, that one evening, I had shut down my laptop and got ready for bed before realizing that it was 7:59 at night. No exaggeration. Now, I'm not saying this is a good excuse to abandon my plans to simplify my life and focus on God. I'm just saying that i
